When planning for durable and affordable cabinetry for a kitchen remodel, IKEA is is a top consideration. This is of course because their Sektion kitchens include quality hardware an amazing warranty. In this post we continue our honest and informative analysis of the benefits and drawbacks of choosing an IKEA Sektion Kitchen.

the Cons

Not a Great Selection of IKEA Sektion Fronts

IKEA doesn’t offer a lot of variety when it comes to door profiles and finishes. This lack of variety leads a lot of folks to feel like their IKEA kitchen would look like everybody else’s. The reality is that it is not likely to happen.

Not only would the combinations and placement of cabinets create a unique form for your new design or remodel project, but companies like our eliminate the idea that you can’t completely customize the look of your IKEA kitchen.

When you order IKEA boxes and hardware as the foundation and order complete custom fronts for IKEA cabinets, you have a sturdy and reliable, well warrantied, almost entirely custom IKEA kitchen.

Limited to White Back Finish

A big complaint about the limitations in IKEA cabinet variety is that the back finish is always white. You might have a dark finish, but the insides of your cabinets are white. This can be rather inelegant depending on the overall design of your kitchen.

When you choose custom fronts for IKEA cabinets you have options for the back finish of your drawers, drawer fronts, and panels based on your design. We specialize in kitchen cabinet replacement doors. We were founded by Designers and Contractors committed to curating the perfect, expansive selection of custom IKEA doors. We know that options that IKEA may not provide still need available.

Customer Service is Minimal

At times it can feel like IKEA is in the business of building and filling warehouses. When it’s time find someone to help you figure out exactly what you need, they can be really difficult to track down. Usually, we have DIY folks that have done their own IKEA Kitchen Planner or work with an Interior Designer to iron out their design and calculate exactly what they’re going to order.

There are quite a few reputable companies that specialize in helping folks customize the design of their new or remodel kitchen design. While Dendra Doors offers design services, we also highly recommend Inspired Kitchen Design who are reliable and immensely talented at designing custom IKEA Kitchens.

The Verdict

You might have noticed a trend here, but a lot of what are considered IKEA’s perceived shortcomings are not necessarily issues for every homeowner. When you realize an entire industry exists to help folks get the most out of your IKEA Sektion Kitchens, you see that they can be thoroughly customized.

IKEA Sektion cabinets themselves are great. 20 years of Akurum cabinet feedback allowed IKEA to meticulously engineer their IKEA kitchen upgrade. Sektion cabinets are the result of hundreds of thousands of well thought out slight adjustments to their original design. Of course, if you still have an Akurum kitchen and it is still going strong and you are simply tired of the rather outdated finish, you can always retrofit Akurum with new custom fronts.
